Wilderness Study Areas

Wilderness Study Areas have been in place on the Steens since the mid-80's. These areas are managed by the BLM as Wilderness per the Wilderness Act until Congress makes a final designation. On the Steens, these areas include the High Steens WSA, Little Blitzen WSA, Blitzen River WSA, South Fork Donner und Blitzen WSA, Alvord Peak WSA, and Home Creek WSA
