East Rim and Alvord Desert

Steens Mountain's east rim towers more than a mile above the Alvord Desert, the driest location in the State of Oregon. These shots give a feel for the stark contrasts in climate, geology, and ecosystems found under 2 linear miles apart in distance, but 6000 feet apart in elevation.
